Robert “Bob” Owens graduated from the University of California-Davis prior to entering the U.S. Army. In 1970, he served as a medic in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam and in the Cambodian invasion with the Ninth Infantry Division. When the Ninth Infantry was redeployed back to the United States, Mr. Owens was transferred to the First Air Cavalry Division. During his tour of duty, he was awarded the Bronze Star, Combat Medical Badge, and Purple Heart Medals.
After returning home, the author attended the California State University-Chico and subsequently received his teaching and administrative credentials and a master’s degree in history. He worked as a high school teacher, curriculum coordinator, school administrator, and county superintendent of schools. Mr. Owens lives in northern California with his wife Kathy and they have two adult children, Alicia and Jeff.
